HOME FOR HOSTING

When this client moved back to San Francisco for work, she knew she wanted her new home to be optimal for hosting; but the drab butter-yellow walls and poorly-lit living room would leave any party guest a bit uncomfortable and a lot underwhelmed.

We anchored the design in the client’s favorite jewel tones and statement Kelly Wearstler wallpaper; then we revamped the overhead lights, added decorative wall sconces, and placed floor lamps, for layered lighting. Toward the room’s completion, it became clear that our attempt to reuse the existing (too-small) rug wasn’t working, so, despite its out-of-order introduction to the design, a fully custom Rug Company area rug brought everything together, to create an inspired, invigorating room that perfectly flexes to serve intimate gatherings and large cocktail parties alike.
